Tathren Stud was established by Catherine Brown and her Husband Dr Tony Drew Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Centre at its original location in Cattai in the early 90s. Due to the expansion of our equine interests, the Glossodia property was purchased in 1999. This property has allowed us to fulfill our vision of providing an excellent teaching and training facility, coupled with breeding successful show horses, racehorses and lovely natured riding school mounts.

Agistment
We provide all levels of Agistment ranging from large shared paddocks, through to stable and private paddocks. We offer a hospitalization service for horses recovering from illness and surgery. We specialize in foaling down mares and weaning foals. We also have other associate properties located throughout the Hawkesbury that provide Agistment.

All our paddocks have ample shelter, and are netted and electrified. All horses are fed twice daily and are rugged according to the weather. We pick up our paddocks every day to coincide with our effective worming program included in your Agistment

Floating
We provide all hours transport. Our fleet consists of 2, 3, & 4 horse ANGLE LOAD floats. All our drivers are experienced horse handlers. We cater for local, country and interstate travel 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. All our floats are towed by powerful 4wd’s fitted with electric brakes.

Hay, bedding and companion horses are also available

Show & Sale Preparation
We regularly have vacancies to prepare and / or market your equine friend

Pre Purchase Suitability Assessments
Tathren Stud can assist in the purchase of your equine friend. Buying a horse is a big commitment and quite often we ask ourselves “Is this the right horse for me?” We can answer that question for you by assessing the horse’s temperament and education to ensure that it is suitable to your level of riding and horse management skills.

Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Centre can assist with a pre purchase veterinary examination to ensure your future horse is healthy

Shows (Hiring of School and Show Horses for outside competitions)
Due to the extremely high cost of maintaining show horses; we understand the need to provide an outlet for our pupils to demonstrate their skills learnt at Tathren Stud on the open competition arena.

Lets face it, the average show horse with all its gear, float and family 4WD can set you back well in excess of 100k; not to mention the ongoing costs and maintenance of this show horse throughout the year – which usually runs out at around 10k per year.

Tathren Stud can give you the opportunity of taking one of our school / show horses to a show!

This opportunity includes the total package:

Your “show horse” is beautifully prepared including:

  • Professional clipping and plaiting
  • Stabling the night before the show
  • Saddle
  • Show bridle
  • Numnah
  • Number holder
  • Show & transport rugs
  • Floating to the show
